about

The powerhouse Americana trio, The Rebel Eves, is releasing their first single of 2024, a highly anticipated fan favorite, “First Place.” The trio has a main goal of being empowering to, and empowered by one another and their listeners through their honest story telling, hair raising harmonies, and compelling lyricism. After a successful first tour of multiple sold out shows in the spring of 2023, the trio was blown away by the positive response to their music and began recording a self-titled debut album, which is slated to release sometime this year. Their motto is "connection over perfection” both on and off the stage and that is exactly what their newest single, First Place, is about. Written by Jilian Linklater and Katie Pederson, First Place was born out of several conversations the trio had about wanting to get back to the root feeling of when they first started making music.

lyrics

How’d I get this stuck inside my head
Used to dream just for the fun of it
Barefoot, tall grass, no high expectations
Heart wide open without reservations

Now it feels the walls are closin in
Suffocated by comparison

I’m always having something to prove
Even when I win I still lose
Every time I cross the finish line
A find a new one on the other side

Wish I could have it both ways
Learn the art of how to celebrate
Cause chasing after first place
Not why I started in the first place

When did I stop singing for myself
Trying to show up everybody else
If I reach every Milestone I aim for?
Will I be happy or will I still want more?

Cause either way, yeah something’s gotta give
Striving after perfect, is no way to live

I’m always having something to prove
Even when I win I still lose
Every time I cross the finish line
A find a new one on the other side

Wish I could have it both ways
Learn the art of how to celebrate
Cause chasing after first place
Not why I started in the first place

I’m always having something to prove
Even when I win I still lose
It was never bout the finish line
But the people who are by your side
Think I could have it both ways
Learn the art of how to celebrate
Cause chasing after first place
‘S Not why I started in the first place
